How To Replace Rv Awning Fabric

Fix That Rv will be showing you how to replace rv awning fabric in just a few easy-to-follow steps! Rv awnings are great during summer bbq season. No one wants to hangout outside of their rv during the summer without some form of shade and sun protection. Follow along to our post and learn how to replace rv awning fabric!

Step One: Choose A New Rv Awning Fabric

The first step is to locate and choose a new fabric for your rv awning. It is always important to measure from rv awning arm to arm to determine the right length of fabric. Do not measure the old fabric itself. Next it is time to determine the material you would like for your awning. Typically the fabric comes in two different styles. Acrylic and Vinyl. Vinyl is much cheaper to replace and is great if you are looking for something water resistant. The downside of using vinyl is that this fabric does not have much breathability. Acrylic has much more breathability and allows air flow to move through it to keep you cooler on a hot summer day!

Step Two: Remove the Awning from the Rv or Trailer

Roll out the rv awning about a foot. Do not roll it out to maximum length. Next you need to remove the awning arms from the rv or travel trailer. To do this part, remove four bolts from the top of the rv awning arms and another four on the bottom of the actuators. After loosening those bolts, it is important to also remember to loosen the fabric channels. If you are unsure the fabric channels are on the top of the awning where the fabric actually slides into. After you locate the channels, loosen the bolts so the fabric can easily slide back and forth in between the channels. To remove the awning assembly gently lift up on the rv awning arms. If there is any sealant be sure to cut it off, so the awning is removable. Be sure when you lift the awning away from the rv that you don’t scratch the side of your rv or travel trailer.

Step Four:  Remove the Awning Arms

On the back side of the awning (the side that does not have the extend/retract lever). There Should be a small hole on the end cap. Insert a small pick or screwdriver in the hole to lock the spring tension on this side.

Remove the bolt holding the arm to the bracket, then remove the arm from the roller. Be sure to keep a tight grip on the bracket while you remove the awning arm! The spring is still engaged and under tension.

Step Five: Take Tension Off of The Springs

There is bracket located on the top and bottom of the rv awning arms! Next, we need to twist the end bracket and the spring should start to release tension and move forward towards the end of the brackets!

Step Six: Remove caps and spring assembly

Remove the bolts and screws from the end cap. Simply slide the end caps and spring assembly and set it to the side.

Step Seven: Replace the Rv Awning Fabric

Next you need to slide the fabric out of the roller. It sometimes helps to take a razor knife and cut between the two vinyl cords. The two sections are easier to remove separately than together. Next, lay out your new fabric with the pattern facing the ground so you can find your end points. On one end, you’ll have two tubes. Work the fabric into the channels and slide it into place. This is obviously much easier to do with two people or more! Next center your fabric using a tape measure to measure each side. It helps to use silicone spray when installing new fabric into the channels.

Step Eight: Reinstall Awning Arms on the RV

Now it is time to reinstall the spring assembly and end caps. If you made marks to indicate the lever position, make sure to put the lever in the same position as before. Replace the bolts or screws. Have a helper hold the awning arm back in position so you can reinstall the bolt that holds it to the motor home. After both arms are reinstalled, we can now remove the pick releasing the spring.

How to replace city water connection on rv

Replacing the city water connection on a rv or travel trailer is fairly simple to do! Follow our step-by-step instructions to learn how to replace city water connection on rv.

Step one: Locate the rv city water connection inlet.

The rv city water connection inlet is typically located near the back of the rv or travel trailer. Use the image provided to help you locate your city water inlet.

Step Two: Remove water hose

If you have a water hose currently connected to your inlet be sure to disconnect the hose and turn on the sink to drain the remaining water.

Step Three: Remove screws and hardware

Next, you need to remove the screws that are holding the rv city water inlet in place. Once all of the screws are removed be sure to carefully slide the inlet toward you so you can access the hose or pvc that it attaches to in the back.

Step Four: Disconnect the water connection inlet from rv

Once you have slid out the water inlet, you should see a hose connector at the end of the inlet connecting to a hose located inside of the rv. The water inlet just smply unscrews from that connector.

Step Five: Replace the old inlet with a new rv city water connection inlet

After the old water inlet is removed from the rv. Take your new water inlet and add teflon tape around the threaded ends and simply screw in the new rv water connection inlet. Once you have twisted it in all the way (should be snug and tight connection) just screw in the connector to the outside of the rv.

Step Six: Turn on water and see if there is any leaks.

Next turn on the water and inspect for leaks. If you notice water leaking be sure to turn off the water hose immediately. Inspect the area of the leak and try to locate where the leak is starting. Its posible the water hose could be loose or damaged. If the leak is occuring inside the rv, be sure to turn off all water and remove the water inlet to make sure it is not cross threaded. Check for cracked plumbing connectors on your rv hoses as well.
